Workplace Visits:
Northern Rail Women in Engineering: Three post-16 students were offered an opportunity to visit the depot through our partnership with Northern Rail. The students joined young women from across West and South Yorkshire to learn about the rail industry and career opportunities. As part of our offer, we promote all apprenticeship opportunities across our networks.
Wakefield District Housing Construction: Fourteen students from Hemsworth visited the depot and have the opportunity for work experience. We are keen to build on the partnership as Wakefield District Housing reaches a milestone next year. It's a great opportunity to work together as Hemsworth Academy has a construction workshop that is one of the best in the region.
Cultural Visits:
Nostell Priory: Eight of our students enjoyed a visit to the historic house at Nostell Priory. Some of these students had rarely left their local area and one commented that visiting Nostell was ‘one of the best days of their life’.
As part of the bespoke work with this group of year 8 students, they wanted to make a video to showcase the skills they had developed and what they have achieved personally as a result of the programme of support. They went from young people who didn’t make eye contact to being able to present on camera - a truly rewarding cohort.
