Inspiring Positive Futures have supported our Year 10 with a wide variety of opportunities and experiences that support aspiration raising and the development of key employability skills. These opportunities have included targeted activities for identified students who meet our criteria of need alongside opportunities that extend to the whole year group. The impact of these activities has supported us as a school in our mission to raise aspiration and provide our students with experiences that will support them in the future and their personal development. Each student who took part in the employability modules has developed a significant amount of transferable skills that is now documented within their IPF personal profile. The workplace visit to Production Park provided 50 of our most vulnerable year 10 students the opportunity to explore the range of careers and education opportunities available in an industry that they would not have earlier considered.

The whole year group were inspired by the insightful talk from Deputy Mayor Alison Lowe who they saw as a role model with a history within the local area which made all the difference for our students to be able to relate to her and her career journey. Working together with Inspiring Positive Futures this academic year has been fantastic and we hope to work together to raise the aspirations of our next cohort of Year 10 in the next academic year.

In a socioeconomically deprived area like LS9, the significance of fostering personal and social skills in children cannot be overstated. With many families facing numerous challenges such as poverty and lack of access to resources, the development of such skills is essential for children to navigate through life successfully.

For us at Richmond Hill Academy, to collaborate with Inspiring Positive Futures, an organisation dedicated to enhancing social capital in young individuals, has proven to be an immensely fruitful partnership. Through this initiative, more than 40 children in LS9 are benefiting from weekly focus group sessions aimed at nurturing their personal and social skills.

This invaluable work is being carried out at LS9 Club, a youth provision established by Richmond Hill Academy to cater to the needs of the local community. Operating three evenings a week, the club serves as a safe and supportive environment where children can engage in activities designed to enhance their personal, physical and social development.

The development of personal and social skills in children is crucial as it equips them with the necessary tools to build positive relationships, communicate effectively, and navigate social situations confidently. These skills are not only vital for their academic success but also their overall well-being and prospects.

By engaging in activities that focus on building personal skills such as self-awareness, resilience, and emotional intelligence, children in LS9 are better equipped to manage the challenges they face daily. These skills empower them to handle stress, make informed decisions, and develop a positive self-image.

Furthermore, the enhancement of social skills, including teamwork, empathy, and communication, enables children to cultivate healthy relationships with their peers, teachers, and family members. This, in turn, fosters a sense of belonging and community, which is especially critical in a deprived area where social support can be limited.

Through the partnership between schools, organisations like Inspiring Positive Futures, and community hubs such as LS9 Club, children in the community are not only acquiring essential personal and social skills. Still, they are also being exposed to positive role models and diverse experiences that broaden their horizons.

The success of the work being carried out by Inspiring Positive Futures, at LS9 Club is only in its infancy, which makes us incredibly excited about what is yet to come.
